National Household Travel Survey 2025–26: India’s First Nationwide Mobility Survey
Context: The National Statistical Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation released India’s first-ever National Household Travel Survey (NHTS) on 5 October 2026. Conducted from July 2025 to June 2026, it covered 14,274 villages, 10,377 urban blocks, 4,92,023 households and 20,34,371 persons. For the survey, “travel” generally meant a trip of 1 km or more.
