TEN CRITICAL QUESTIONS ON CURRENT GEOPLOITICAL AND NATIONAL ISSUES – 206
Q1. China's restrictions on advanced technologies may affect India's industrial growth. Should India reduce its technological dependence on China?
Answer: Sir/Ma'am, India should reduce excessive technological dependence on any single country, including China. The reported Chinese restrictions on advanced technologies show how technology can become an instrument of geopolitical influence. India depends on imported components and technologies for electronics, solar energy and advanced manufacturing. However, suddenly stopping imports could increase production costs and delay industrial development. India should invest in research, skilled manpower, domestic manufacturing and alternative supply chains. It should also maintain trade dialogue with China and strengthen cooperation with other technology partners. My view is that technological self-reliance means developing the capacity to make independent decisions, not completely withdrawing from global trade.
