1. Fishing Methods

Fishing methods are different techniques used to catch fish in rivers, lakes, seas, and oceans. Common methods include drift net fishing, where nets float with water currents; purse seining, which surrounds a school of fish with a large net; trawling, where a large net is dragged behind a boat; longlining, which uses long lines with many baited hooks; and gillnetting, where fish are caught by their gills. The choice of method depends on the type of fish, water body, and fishing purpose. Modern fishing methods improve efficiency but should be used responsibly to protect fish populations and marine ecosystems.

2. Types of Fishing

Fishing can be classified into artisanal, industrial, and recreational fishing. Artisanal fishing is small-scale and uses simple boats and traditional equipment. It provides food and income to coastal and rural communities. Industrial fishing is large-scale and uses modern ships, advanced technology, and powerful equipment to catch fish for commercial markets. Recreational fishing is carried out for sport, leisure, or relaxation using fishing rods and lines. Each type of fishing serves different purposes and contributes to food production, employment, tourism, and the economy. Sustainable management ensures that all types of fishing remain productive for future generations.

3. Fishing Gear and Equipment

Fishing gear includes various tools used to catch fish efficiently. Nets, such as drift nets, seine nets, trawl nets, and gillnets, are widely used in commercial fishing. Hooks and lines are commonly used in recreational and longline fishing. Traps and pots catch crabs, lobsters, and shrimps, while spears and harpoons are used in traditional fishing. Boats and canoes help fishermen reach fishing grounds. Modern equipment such as GPS systems, sonar, and fish finders helps locate fish quickly. Proper use of legal and environmentally friendly fishing gear protects fish populations and reduces damage to marine ecosystems.
