MAJOR CROPS OF INDIA

1. Wheat

Wheat is one of the most important food crops of India and is the staple diet in many northern states. It is mainly grown during the rabi season and requires cool weather during growth and warm, dry weather during harvesting. Major wheat-producing states include Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. The fertile alluvial soils of the Northern Plains provide ideal conditions for its cultivation. 2. Rice

Rice is the staple food for a large part of India's population and is the country's most important kharif crop. It requires high temperatures, abundant rainfall, and fertile soil for cultivation. Major rice-producing states include West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh. Rice is mainly grown in river valleys, coastal plains, and delta regions. It is rich in carbohydrates and provides energy to millions of people. India is among the world's leading producers and exporters of rice. The crop plays a vital role in food security, employment, and the agricultural economy.
