1. Ozone Layer
The ozone layer is a region in the Earth's atmosphere that contains a high concentration of ozone (O₃) gas. It is located mainly in the stratosphere, about 15 to 35 kilometers above the Earth's surface. The ozone layer acts like a protective shield by absorbing most of the Sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Without this layer, dangerous UV rays would reach the Earth, causing serious harm to humans, animals, and plants. The ozone layer is essential for maintaining life on Earth and plays a crucial role in protecting ecosystems and preserving environmental balance across the globe.
2. Stratosphere
The stratosphere is the second major layer of the Earth's atmosphere, located above the troposphere. It extends from about 10 to 50 kilometers above the Earth's surface. The ozone layer is found within this region. Unlike the lower atmosphere, temperatures in the stratosphere increase with height because ozone absorbs ultraviolet radiation from the Sun. This layer is important because it protects life by filtering harmful UV rays before they reach Earth. The stratosphere also provides stable conditions for aircraft and weather balloons. Its unique properties make it an essential part of Earth's atmospheric system.
