1. NTA Overhaul after Exam-Leak Crisis: Four-Tier Paper Checks and CISF Security
The Education Ministry announced a major restructuring of the National Testing Agency (NTA) following the NEET-UG paper leak and lapses in UGC-NET examinations. The reform package includes removal of 600 experts, induction of a new panel, a four-tier question-paper checking mechanism, induction of additional officials and shifting NTA offices to premises secured by the CISF. The changes follow sustained student protests and the resignation of the previous Education Minister. The logic is that examination integrity cannot depend merely on secrecy at the final stage; it requires institutional vetting of experts, multiple layers of scrutiny, secure infrastructure and professional accountability throughout the examination chain. However, security-oriented reforms must also address outsourcing, conflict of interest, digital vulnerabilities and grievance redress. The gist is that public examinations are high-stakes state institutions, and restoring trust requires structural prevention of leaks rather than repeated cancellation and investigation after malpractice has already harmed millions of aspirants.
