Prime Minister Narendra Modi began a three-day state visit to Seychelles to commemorate the island nation's 50th Independence Day and strengthen bilateral relations. During the visit, India handed over a Fast Patrol Vessel, ambulances and utility vehicles, while both countries agreed to deepen cooperation in maritime security, defence, capacity building and the Blue Economy. Seychelles occupies a strategic location in the Western Indian Ocean and plays an important role in India's Vision MAHASAGAR and Indo-Pacific strategy. The logic behind the visit is that India's maritime security and regional influence depend upon strong partnerships with Indian Ocean island nations. The editorial stand supports India's proactive maritime diplomacy as an essential pillar of its foreign policy.
