1. NEET Paper Leak: CBI Probe Exposes Basic Security Failures inside NTA
The CBI investigation into the NEET-UG paper leak found that three NTA subject experts allegedly removed questions from the agency’s confidential section using surprisingly simple methods: one wrote questions on small paper chits while two others memorised them and reconstructed them later in hotel rooms or marked corresponding NCERT passages. Investigators found that experts were not frisked while leaving the confidential area and that the section lacked a dedicated live CCTV-monitoring control room. One chemistry expert allegedly copied all 135 questions and later conducted special coaching sessions. The logic of the case is important: sophisticated examination fraud may exploit elementary institutional failures rather than advanced hacking. Therefore, reforms must address personnel vetting, access controls, frisking, continuous CCTV retention, digital audit trails and separation of duties. The gist is that examination integrity depends on securing every human link in the chain; technology alone cannot protect a system where basic internal controls are absent.
