1. India–China Corps Commander Talks in Arunachal: Border Management Remains Central
India and China held Corps Commander-level talks at the Wacha-Damai Border Personnel Meeting point in Arunachal Pradesh, the first such senior military engagement in recent months amid tension in the Taksing area of Upper Subansiri. Indian troops remained deployed in strength to prevent escalation. The talks followed several local commander meetings and the August 25 discussions between NSA Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. New Delhi and Beijing have been attempting to rebuild relations after the 2020 eastern Ladakh standoff, while President Xi Jinping is expected in New Delhi for the BRICS summit. Former CDS Lt Gen Anil Chauhan noted that differing perceptions of the LAC, infrastructure development and military force multipliers continue to create possibilities for friction. The gist is that political normalisation with China remains inseparable from stable border management; hotlines, commander-level dialogue and clear operational agreements can reduce miscalculation, but sustained vigilance and credible military capability remain necessary until the boundary dispute itself is resolved.
