1. रूसी तेल पर अमेरिकी टैरिफ दबाव — भारत की ऊर्जा सुरक्षा बनाम रणनीतिक साझेदारी
NBT के विचार लेख में भारत-अमेरिका संबंधों के सामने रूसी तेल और वीजा नीति को महत्वपूर्ण चुनौती बताया गया है। अमेरिकी सीनेट ने ऐसा प्रावधान मंजूर किया है जिससे रूस से बड़ी मात्रा में कच्चा तेल और प्राकृतिक गैस खरीदने वाले देशों पर 100% तक टैरिफ लगाने का अधिकार मिल सकता है; भारत भी प्रमुख खरीदारों में है। लेख का तर्क है कि अमेरिका टैरिफ को geopolitical pressure के साधन की तरह इस्तेमाल कर रहा है, जबकि भारत के लिए सस्ती और विविध ऊर्जा आपूर्ति राष्ट्रीय हित का प्रश्न है। रूस वैश्विक crude production में लगभग 11-12% हिस्सेदारी रखता है और Hormuz तथा Bab-el-Mandeb जैसे मार्गों पर अस्थिरता के बीच उसकी आपूर्ति महत्वपूर्ण है। NBT का stand है कि किसी तीसरे देश को भारत की ऊर्जा साझेदारियां निर्धारित नहीं करनी चाहिए। भारत-अमेरिका रणनीतिक संबंध जरूरी हैं, लेकिन energy security, strategic autonomy और संवाद समान रूप से महत्वपूर्ण हैं।
