1. Bangladesh sets conditions for Prime Minister’s India visit
Bangladesh’s interim government has indicated that a visit by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to India would require a “propitious environment”, signalling continuing strains in bilateral relations. Dhaka has expressed dissatisfaction over remarks attributed to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from Indian soil and has reiterated demands for her extradition, along with suspected killers of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi. Bangladesh also expects India to respond decisively to concerns about individuals allegedly involved in attacks against its diplomatic mission. Bangladesh seeks assurances regarding sovereignty and non-interference, while India has an interest in preserving stable relations with a strategically important neighbour.
