1. Coordinate Geometry (Analytic Geometry)
Coordinate Geometry, also known as Analytic Geometry, is a branch of mathematics that combines algebra and geometry to study geometric figures using coordinates. It uses a coordinate system, usually the Cartesian plane, to represent points, lines, curves, and shapes. By assigning numerical values to positions, coordinate geometry helps solve geometric problems through algebraic equations. Developed by René Descartes, this field has become an essential part of mathematics and science. It is widely used in engineering, physics, architecture, computer graphics, navigation, and astronomy. Coordinate geometry provides a powerful method for understanding spatial relationships and measurements.
2. Cartesian Plane
The Cartesian plane is a two-dimensional coordinate system formed by two perpendicular number lines called the x-axis and y-axis. Their intersection point is known as the origin, represented as (0,0). Every point on the plane is identified by an ordered pair (x, y), where x indicates the horizontal position and y indicates the vertical position. The plane is divided into four regions called quadrants. Positive and negative values determine the location of points within these quadrants. The Cartesian plane provides a visual framework for plotting data, analyzing graphs, and solving geometric and algebraic problems efficiently.
