1. Galathea Bay National Park

Galathea Bay National Park is a protected area located on Great Nicobar Island in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It was declared a national park in 1992 to conserve the region’s unique biodiversity and fragile ecosystems. The park is known for its dense tropical forests, pristine coastline, and rich wildlife. It forms an important part of the Great Nicobar Biosphere Reserve and supports many endemic species found nowhere else in the world. Due to its ecological significance, the park plays a vital role in biodiversity conservation, environmental protection, and scientific research in India.

2. Great Nicobar Biosphere Reserve

Great Nicobar Biosphere Reserve is one of India’s most important biosphere reserves. It includes Galathea Bay National Park and Campbell Bay National Park, separated by a forest buffer zone. The reserve protects diverse ecosystems such as tropical rainforests, coastal habitats, mangroves, and marine environments. It is home to numerous endemic plants and animals found only in the Nicobar Islands. The biosphere reserve promotes conservation, sustainable development, and scientific research. Its ecological importance extends beyond India because it supports rare species and helps maintain environmental balance in the eastern Indian Ocean region.
