1. India–China push for border delimitation and normalisation of ties
India and China used the 25th round of Special Representatives’ talks to emphasise peace along the border and explore progress towards boundary delimitation, signalling an effort to consolidate the recent stabilisation in bilateral relations. National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed border management, cross-border cooperation and confidence-building. Doval described ties as “returning to normalcy” after years of tension, while both sides stressed that tranquillity in border areas remains essential for broader relations. The logic is that military disengagement alone cannot ensure durable peace; clearly understood boundaries, effective communication mechanisms and mutual restraint are required to prevent renewed confrontation. China also indicated readiness to work with India on long-term strategic cooperation, while President Xi Jinping is expected to visit India for the BRICS summit. The emerging stand favours dialogue without abandoning core interests. Sustainable normalisation will ultimately depend on converting diplomatic assurances into verifiable stability along the Line of Actual Control.
